Steve Vaught of thefatmanwalking.com talks in his Jan. 16 journal about the changes he’s made since beginning his cross-country walk in an effort to lose weight and where he needs to take the next steps.
He’s no longer on Route 66 for the rest of his trek, but I’m sure many readers here wish to keep up with his exploits.
Vaught will appear live on NBC’s “Today Show” tomorrow; I’m don’t know which time slot. Maybe he and Al Roker can trade weight-loss war stories.
Vaught also will be interviewed for the network’s “Dateline.”

MSNBC has started a new online travel magazine called Take 3, that seems to be tailored to baby boomers. It has an entry on Route 66, with Oatman, Ariz., as the featured picture.
Be careful navigating it, though; it seems the buttons are all out of whack. When I tried to slick on the Route 66 thumbnail, it took me to the City Lights bookstore in San Francisco instead. Maybe the webmaster had a little too much fun during the 1960s.

Nicholas R. Cataldo wrote an interesting column for the San Bernardino Sun about the old trails that winded through the Cajon Pass area north of what is now the Los Angeles metropolitan area. In fact, there was a toll road along Cajon Pass as early as 1861. It later became the National Old Trails Road, which later became Route 66, which later became Interstate 15.
Go read it. It’s a fascinating read about how roads evolved..
