Magazine touts two Route 66 motels February 13, 2006

Tracy Staton of American Way magazine recently picked her 15 favorite vintage motels in the United States.
Both Wigwam Motels on Route 66 — the one in Holbrook, Ariz., and the one in Rialto, Calif. — made the cut.
I’m just disappointed this one didn’t make the list.
(Hat tip to Manoj Patel at the Wigwam in Rialto for pointing out this article.)

I have to agree with the three Wigwams and the Austin. I can only assume the author has not stayed at the Blue Swallow. I refuse to believe there is a motel on the planet that can top the Swallow … though I imagine the Shady Dell comes close.
I assume you are aware that we will be flying to New York in August to check out Kate’s Lazy Meadow. Vintage cabins done up in mid-century modern and owned by the woman who inspired my 10-year love affair with henna? Yes, please! We’ll just cruise out to Yasgur’s farm to catch Melanie Safka at the annual Woodstock reunion while we’re at it.
