KNBC Channel 4 in Los Angeles reports that the Santa Monica City Council voted to install police surveillance cameras at several area sites, including the Santa Monica Pier — the symbolic western end of Route 66.
City officials say they decided on the plan after suspicious people took pictures of some of the facilities there.
“Some men were videotaping in a manner that was inconsistent with tourist photography. They were photographing access roads and security structures,” said Chief James Butts with the Santa Monica Police Department.
Big Brother is watching you.

Rick and Jane McKinney, the evangelical couple on their Walk to Reclaim America trek, crossed the one-quarter mark of their trek a few days ago, just outside of Gallup, N.M. The home page of their Web site has a photo marking the event.

Patsy Terrell of the Patsy’s Ponderings blog has posted more photographs from her trip last summer on Route 66, this time of the Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo. Patsy actually made two visits. The second was unplanned, but she learned that the Cadillacs had been recently painted pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. She knew someone who’d died of breast cancer, and she left a message on one of the cars.
