Kelley Blue Book, as many automotive people may know, is a publication that provides values for used cars.
Well, KBB has given its Blue Book values for a number of "Cars" movie characters, including Lightning McQueen ($1.5 million), Sally ($49,465), Doc ($19,852) and Mater ($2,575). There's also a sweepstakes for an advance screening of the film.
AT&T is doing a promotional tie-in with "Cars" at this site. Here's what it's supposed to have, according to the news release:
Visitors to the site have the chance to race the movie's car characters down a stretch of highway reminiscent of Route 66 while dodging obstacles including mud slicks, rolling tires, construction barriers and other cars. Players are also required to manage their car's performance to account for simulated losses in tire pressure and gas consumption correlating with higher speeds. The number and type of obstacles and the frequency of required pit stops increase through three difficulty tiers.
Site visitors can also customize rock, country, jazz and Latin-inspired tunes for downloading in a special audio lab created for AT&T by Disney. Visitors can also download "Cars" desktop graphics.
When I went there, the audio lab worked OK, but I couldn't find the game.
Finally, Australia's Gizmag has photos of Eddie Paul's rubber-and-metal Mater that's "created to match the animations." Looking at one image posted below, I'd say it's a fine likeness. Here's Eddie's company, EP Industries of El Segundo, Calif.

Summerfest includes a bicycle race May 23, 2006

The Route 66 Summerfest in Rolla, Mo., will include the Ozark Hellbender Road Race on June 4, which is a 35-mile bicycle jaunt starting from the nearby community of Newburg through the Mark Twain National Forest and near the Little and Big Piney rivers, reports the Rolla Daily News.
“I think without a doubt it’s the prettiest, and probably the most challenging, road race of its kind in the state,” said race coordinator Morgan Bearden.
…
“We’re hoping next year the race gets designated as the state championship road race,” Bearden said. “We think we have a real good chance. It’s important to put on a good show this year.”
The Ozark Hellbender is sanctioned by the United States Cycling Federation (USCF) and attracts riders from all over Missouri.
…
Fifty-eight riders have already registered for Hellbender and Bearden is expecting 150-200 riders to compete the day of the event. Organizing a race this large takes many volunteers to ensure things run smoothly and competitors are safe.
The Rolla Road Riders Motorcycle Club is sending volunteers to act as the lead escort for each wave of cyclists as they take off from Newburg. Personnel from Fort Leonard Wood will assist the race by stationing themselves at each major intersection on the course to control traffic for the riders.
Here's a map of the course. Here are photographs from the course. I've driven on a lot of those roads in the area, and I can assure cyclists who've never been there that it will be … um … challenging.

Ace Jackalope of The Lope blog alerted me to the fact the circa-1929 Coleman Theatre in Miami, Okla., recently refurbished its vintage neon sign and had it lit for the first time Friday. Ace happened to be driving through Miami on Sunday night and saw it. The photo above is his.
A volunteer at the theater also was nice enough to give Ace a tour of the theater that night. Go here to see Ace's lavish photos of this wonderful venue. You can also read about our night with a Trout Fishing in America concert at the Coleman a few weeks ago.
Also, Ace recently revisited his one-year anniversary post: a trip down Route 66 at Lebanon, Mo. Visits to the Munger Moss Motel, the Bell restaurant and the late, great Wrinks Market were included.
