The Dixney-Pixar film “Cars” passed the $300 million mark in worldwide box-office grosses during the weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

The worldwide take probably will send total grosses toward the $400 million mark because many European countries just opened the film in the past week or so.

“Cars” is the No. 3 film in North America this year with $220 million in grosses, and it has an outside shot at overtaking “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which has $232 million in grosses. Roaring to the No. 1 spot is “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” at $258 million after just two weeks.

Photographer Lorissa J. Longfellow will open an exhibit, “Desert Views,” of her work at the Spinster in downtown Kingman, Ariz., from Aug. 4 to Sept. 4.

According to the news release:

Ghost towns, National Parks, machinery and cars left abandoned, and sections of old Route 66 are subjects that make up the images in the series. They are images that recall the past grandeur of the objects and reveal how beautiful objects become as nature reclaims them; in general, images that reflect the beauty of the desert in our present day.” To preview Lorissa photos, visit her new Web site at www.ljdesignphoto.com. Lorissa is a member of the Mohave Artists and Craftsmen Guild and has won awards at local art shows for her photographs.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Buddy Boren is 600 miles into his Tour de Route 66 bicycle ride. He’s going to be heading into Vinita, Okla., today, right when the temperature is forecast to hit 101. It’s not looking any better for the rest of the week, either, with temperatures forecast to hit triple digits every day across Oklahoma.

Boren is raising money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, and hopes to reach Santa Monica by Aug. 14.
