My friend Mike Ward pointed this out this morning: Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for the widescreen version of Pixar/Disney’s movie “Cars,” which featured Route 66 prominently in the film.

The DVD is set to arrive Nov. 7.

The price is $20.99, which is about nine bucks off the retail price.

There’s been a lot of rancor over the fact it’s going to be a single-disc offering. But, to me, as long as it offers deleted scenes (it does), a making-of documentary (it does) and a bonus short film (it does, about the “Ghost Light”), then I’m pretty happy.

By the way, “Cars” has taken in more than $133 million in the foreign markets and is poised to roar toward the $400 million mark overall.

The Duke City Fix, an collective blog about all things about Albuquerque, has some interesting tidbits today from contributor Johnny Mango:

  • Details about the street designs for when streetcars are installed along Central Avenue, aka Route 66.
  • New crosswalks on Central.
  • A grant has been awarded to restore the historic murals at the De Anza Motel.
  • The city has tightened booze sales along Central Avenue to keep down the number of drunken pedestrians — no single tall-boy beers, miniature booze bottles, or hopped-up wine.

I know there are quite a few Route 66ers who drive retro-looking Chrysler PT Cruisers.

Those on the West Coast probably will like the new one — it’s called the Pacific Coast Highway Edition. Here are photos of the vehicle from the press release.

Chrysler, as I recall, did pretty well with its last special edition. It was the Route 66 model.

The Auto Channel has the complete news release from Chrysler.

It’s a bit sad what’s going to become of the old Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum property just off Route 66 in Victorville, Calif.

But since the museum moved to Branson, Mo., several years ago, the locals have to do something with the land. It’s just too bad it’s going to become something so uninspiring like a Home Depot.
