Dale Holly has the barbershop he’s owned since 1962 up for sale at 2312 Utica Ave., aka Route 66, in the Royal Heights neighborhood of Joplin, Mo.

But it’s not just any barbershop. Dale’s Ole 66 Barber Shop was a Phillips 66 gas station, built in the 1920s, Holly reckons. It also sold Shamrock gasoline, which Holly said was a “cut-rate” brand made by Phillips.

Holly, 76, said he rented it out to another hair stylist about three years ago. But the stylist opened her own place, and it’s been closed since February.

Holly says he’ll rent out the 400-square-foot barbershop for $400 a month. Or he’ll sell it along with four lots, a storage building, and a small house behind the shop, for $115,000.

If you want to talk to Holly about the property, he can be reached at 417-624-7483 or 417-483-5993.

I had the pleasure of visiting with Dale a few months ago; he’s a nice guy and wealth of information on Rt66 in Joplin. His little shop is a rarity in Joplin, in that many of that town’s Rt66 buildings have been demolished or greatly altered.
