This shows how far-flung the song “Route 66″ has become in terms of fame and influence. Here’s a Croatian group, the Ben Dover Band, cranking out a muscular version of Bobby Troup’s classic road song in the Route 66 club in Zagreb, Croatia.

The quality of the video is a bit grainy, but the hard-rockin’ ‘tude of the band comes across loud and clear.

Emily Priddy has just finished the second update of her free, downloadable “Route 66 for Kids” guidebook, which is a primer for parents who want to find kid-friendly attractions on the Mother Road.

The book was originally published in 2003, and Priddy updates it every two years. The newest version has several new listings suggested by others. The book can be downloaded as either a Microsoft Word or Acrobat document.

Priddy’s Kids on 66 site also has an updated links page and other improved features.

This is the second story about the Route 66 town of Oatman, Ariz., in about three days, and it’s a good one.

The story by Jerry Rice for InsideBayArea.com contains a lot of local color and history.

It even has some stuff I was unaware of, including horseback riding through the mountains, and Burro Biscuit Toss competition on Labor Day weekend.
