A severe storm in early September damaged the restored Cool Springs Camp on Oatman Road, aka Route 66, between Kingman and Oatman, Ariz.

Cool Springs owner Ned Leuchtner said the storm ripped off part of the roof and dumped about two inches of rain on parts of the store’s interior. Fortunately, he said, the artifacts were not damaged.

Cool Springs won’t have regular hours until further notice, while repairs are being done.

However, Leuchtner said Cool Springs will be open by appointment if you e-mail coolsprings(at)gotsky.com and let the manager know you’re coming by.  “We remain committed to supporting the hobbyists on Route 66,” he said.

On Monday, the Pontiac City Council officially extended an invitation to the Walldogs group to paint murals on buildings along Route 66 in town, according to the Bloomington Pantagraph.

The organization gathers at a community to paint murals. In exchange, the host community provides liability insurance, food and lodging to the artists and a payment of $1,200 to a designated project leader of each mural. [...]

… a Walldogs event takes a year to plan, so the earliest it could be in Pontiac would be 2009.
