After our trip down 66 I’d like to see a few more added to this list. The Americana Motel or Motel Americana (depending how you interpret the sign) just down from the Blue Swallow in Tucumcari NM. Prices were reasonable and the rooms were over the top. Also the Travel Inn in Weatherford OK, rooms were very clean, owners were wonderful and very amenable to the Rt 66′ers.
FYI to all, we stayed at the Munger Moss (everything it was recommended to be, worth the stay in the Coral Court room), The Skyliner in Stroud was awesome and very friendly, The Blue Swallow was a bit disappointing because they won’t leave the neon on and the rates have been raised to more than most of the other motor courts in the area which are just as nice or nicer, wasn’t worth it really. The Carlin-Villa was well worth the trip, again the owners were awesome and the rooms incredible. That was our experience.
Thanks

Dont forget the Historic Route 66 Motel in Barstow, California.
195 W. Main St. Barstow, CA 92311
When we travel Route 66, we like to stay in the Mom and Pop motels. That’s what it’s all about. I know there are chains that are nice and prices good, but it’s about the Mom and Pop motels, restaurants and tourist traps that are what the Road is all about. As long as it’s clean, if it makes you think of the 40’s and 50’s, all the more better. We’ve had our best experiences and memories at the older places, not the cookie cutter motels/restaurants you see so much along the interstates. To us, these are the people that are keeping the legend alive.
Two days ago we drove on old Route 66 off of New Mexico 6. We spotted the road between NM6 and the railroad tracks. An open gate beckoned us on. Amazing….about 4-5 miles of road was still there. There among the weeds and brush growing on the road. What a find! I literally cried…. We found other old alignments too. Just took some back roads and a bit of luck. Route 66 is one wonderful ride – finding the old alignments are the best. Thanks for the memories, Route 66!
Traveling through Springfield MO the original hotels now seem to be run down with weekly /monthly rates and “interesting” people living there.
We decided to bypass them and stay just off W266 and I-44, at a Ramada – a chain hotel, one I usually avoid but this one was clean with friendly staff. It has an old Mom and Pop diner next to it with homemade soups and pies, a lot of food for the price. Had to take the pie to go along with leftovers from dinner.
We went W on 266 through Halltown on our way to Neosho. MO has a lot of old rock buildings as the state was, still is, fields of rocks.
