Rock Cafe
As reported previously on this blog, the historic Rock Cafe on Route 66 in Stroud, Okla., caught fire May 20. The blaze gutted the building, destroyed the roof, and damaged the top four feet of the stone walls.
Owner Dawn Welch plans to restore the building and reopen the popular business. Two Route 66 organizations are working to assist Welch with her efforts.
Friends of the Mother Road, Inc., a Missouri-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of historic Route 66, is collecting tax-deductible monetary donations to help the Rock Cafe. Donations may be made by check, money order, or credit card.

Additionally, the Oklahoma Route 66 Association is working on a special project to assist Welch. This project — which will cost participants nothing more than a little time and perhaps a postage stamp or two — will be a surprise for Welch, so details are not being posted online. Anyone interested in learning more about this very special project is asked to contact the Association by phone at (405) 258-0008 or by e-mail at okrt66association (at) sbcglobal (dot) net.
